BOOM Contemporary Gallery was founded in 2018 by Michael Tcheyan. A longtime supporter of artists, Tcheyan is himself an alumna of the New York Studio School for Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, where his teachers included Philip Guston, Mercedes Matter and George Mcneil. For many years, Tcheyan organized the annual NYSS alumni juried exhibitions and awards.

BOOM Contemporary is a collective gallery and a robust exchange of ideas from its artists has been present since its inception. During the COVID pandemic, a group email served as a forum for discussing what the gallery would be in terms of ethos, structure and name. Many of the 24 represented artists are alumni of The New York Studio School from different generations. This legacy can be seen in the drawings, paintings, prints and sculpture shown in the gallery. There is a strong engagement with materials and craft, an emphasis on representational work, and a commitment to countless hours engaged in studio practice.

Tcheyan's vision for the gallery was to connect collectors directly with artists so that nothing is lost in translation. In that spirit, the gallery facilitates conversations between collectors and artists, nurturing a long term relationship. The gallery hosts around 15 exhibitions a year on Artsy and in project spaces in New York City and London. Visit the Exhibitions page for further details.
